After the report

Turning audit findings into lasting improvement.

A clear owner, sensible priority and visible follow-up turn recommendations into stronger ways of working.

Treat the report as the start of improvement.

The most effective response to an audit finding is specific: record the agreed action, responsible owner, target date and evidence that will demonstrate completion. Priorities should reflect risk and practical dependencies, not simply the order in which findings appear in the report.

Members should receive enough information to understand progress and unresolved exposure, while officers retain responsibility for implementing the agreed action. A short action log reviewed at sensible intervals is often more valuable than a lengthy narrative update.
